DID YOU KNOW?
Manitoba is home to 88 species of mammals. The Pronghorn, Mule Deer and Prairie Dog seen in these photos are not found in manitoba.
The Pronghorn is not an antelope, but the last member of its family Antilocapridae. They are the fastest land animal in North America reaching speeds up to 80 km/h for a short distance but they can also run over 50 km/h for over 5 km.
Mule Deer are named so because of their large ears.
Prairie Dogs are an important species to various animals, not only are they a food staple for other prairie dwellers such as, ferrets, coyotes, foxes, badgers, hawks and eagles, but they are also important to the burrowing owl who uses old dens for their nests.
